Bodwin Theatre Company

Up Next: Please join us for "The Lion in Winter" by James Goldman. This will be a full production, rather than a staged reading, done with students from the University of Toledo and Notre Dame College. This is a witty and fiery comic drama that pits the world's first Power Couple, Henry II of England and his estranged Queen Eleanor, against each other. Throw in their ambitious, rebellious sons, then add Lady Alyss of Vexin and her little brother Philip II Augustus of France and you have the ultimate historical dysfunctional family. It's a veritable Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf meets King Lear ... It's Bill being Bill ... It's Hillary, before we meet Hillary ... Nothing like political family quarrels to warm us up for the Presidential campaign season. Two week-ends in August, August 1-3 and 8-10 at Notre Dame College

Why Theater Matters! Antoni Cimolino, the Executive Director of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival spoke at the Cleveland City Club, offering a ringing summary of theater's vital role in our community. Because Bodwin couldn't agree more, we posted the speech for your review (click for more information about the City Club, "Cleveland's Citadel of Free Speech" since 1912). While on the subject of education and the arts, Bodwin thanks friends and supporters who helped with recent donations to nonprofit social service agency University Settlement, which operates in the south and eastern neighborhoods of the City of Cleveland. Their efforts supported taking kids to see live theater, The Lion King, at Playhouse Square.

Bodwin Theatre Company is dedicated to showcasing Cleveland's vastly rich theatrical talent in the greatest Classical and Contemporary plays ever written. Our emphasis is on the actor and the performance -- all the excitement of live theatre begins and ends here. We strive not just to entertain, but to thrill and astonish, to create an experience that will stay with an audience long after the house lights have come up and the exit doors opened. We strive to put a human face on this most human of arts, knowing that the pulse of an actor's performance is the heartbeat of truly great theatre. Come share the exhilaration of it all with us!
